Description:

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

Show Notes:

Auditions:
Students enrolled for the Spring Session of classes are eligible to sign up for an audition slot through their family account! Auditions will be on Friday, March 26th where students will bring their prepared material (see below). Saturday, March 27th, students will come to the studio for Dance Call from 10am-12:30pm. Callbacks will follow for students who are asked to stay to read and sing for specific characters.

Students will need to prepare:
A one minute cut of a song (this song should NOT be from Shrek. We suggest something Disney if this is your first time auditioning. Your track needs to be a karaoke track with no words)
A one minute monologue (the monologues from Shrek that you can use from CYT are HERE, OR you can select your own monologue if you would like)

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will begin Saturday, April 3rd and will end Saturday, June 5th.

The rehearsal schedule can be found HERE.

As of this time, face coverings or face shields will be needed during rehearsals per our current CYT Covid policies. We are continuing to reevaluate our Covid policies regularly, and as of this time, performers will be required to wear Face Shields during performances until we hear more from the performance venue.
Please note that the following days/times will be used in this show process: Friday from 5:30-8:30pm, and Saturday from 10am-4pm. In order to have flexibility in case of sickness, we may utilize a few select Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30pm but are not planning on using these days regularly for rehearsal.

Production Fees and Ticketing:
Production Fees for this show are $200.

We are planning on block ticketing for this show since performances we are planning on in-person performances. Block Ticketing means that families are responsible for selling 10 tickets at a discounted rate of $15 a piece to family and friends. This is done by using a personal box office link that can be shared. If families do not sell their 10 tickets by the time the show closes, the remaining dollar amount will be charged to the Family Account. More information will be coming with details!
