Description

TRIMESTER - Teen Tech: Set and Lighting Design
Every great production begins with a vision. In this creative design-focused class, students will explore how scenic and lighting designers transform a script into a fully realized theatrical experience. Learn how design choices help tell a story, establish time and place, create mood, support character development, and guide the audience's attention.
Students will examine the design process from concept to production, including script analysis, visual research, mood boards, color palettes, ground plans, renderings, and lighting concepts. Through hands-on design projects and collaborative discussions, students will discover how sets, props, costumes, sound, and lighting work together to create a cohesive world on stage.
Perfect for creative thinkers, artists, and theater lovers who enjoy storytelling, visual design, and problem-solving, this class offers an exciting introduction to the artistic side of technical theater. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of how design shapes the audience's experience and helps bring a director's vision to life.

**Our Fall Showcase for Tuesday classes will be Tuesday, Oct 6th at Freedom Fellowship Church.

Teacher:

Marlana Perry

Marlana Perry has been involved in theatre since middle school, both onstage and behind the scenes. She studied English and Secondary Education in college, and an assistant directing internship during her student teaching quickly led her to theatre education. She spent seven years as a theatre faculty member and director for Valor Christian High School's conservatory program in Colorado, earning a Bobby G Award nomination for best production of Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2019 and the Colorado Thespians' Best Show Award for her direction of Bright Star in 2020. After moving to Texas, Marlana served as the Director of Theatre at San Marcos Academy before stepping away from the classroom to homeschool her children. In 2023, she was awarded the TAPPs Linda Wolfe Leadership Award for her direction of The Wizard of Oz. Though life has taken her away from theatre for brief seasons, she always finds her way back because, as she likes to say, "You don't choose the theatre life—the theatre life chooses you.
