Are parents allowed to sit in during classes?
While we love to have parents involved at CYT, Trimester classes are closed. This is for several reasons. Some students do not perform well with parental supervision, and other students sometimes get nervous when another related parent is in the room. We also want the Showcase performance to be an awesome surprise for you and your family! If you feel like you need to sit in on a class for any reason, please contact our Program Coordinator. Our Studio Classes will have 2 Parent Observation nights per year.

What should we expect on the first day of class?
When you arrive, you'll be greeted by our staff! We'll make sure we have you registered in the right class, then all Trimester Class parents and students will head into our Main Studio Room (our black box) for a brief welcome meeting before the students head to class. Our Program Coordinator will send out an email with specific instructions for the first night of class, so be on the lookout for that!

What does my child need to bring to class?
A water bottle, a pencil, closed toe shoes, and good attitude are all good things to have! If your child needs anything specific to their class (especially for dance classes) you should receive an email from your instructor detailing what you need.

What is the refund policy?
Trimester Classes offer refunds if they are prior to the 2nd week of class. However, there is a $25 cancellation fee, and each class is prorated. The amount refunded to you will be your total with those fees subtracted. Studio Classes do not receive refunds for any month that has already had classes. Intent to drop a class must be communicated to the Education Staff no later than 3 business days before the billing date to not be charged for the upcoming month.  Refunds are not issued once classes begin.  For any questions, please contact our Managing Director at md@cytsanantonio.org

I've already registered for a class, but I want to switch to a different class. Is that ok?
We are totally fine with students moving to another class. HOWEVER, any requests to move to another class must be submitted and approved two weeks before the class begins. If you need to switch classes in that two week time period, a $25 fee will apply.

Do I need to have prior theatrical experience?
No.  We can teach you everything you need to know! However, we sometimes offer classes that require prerequisites, so make sure to check our class listings for more details.

Who receives e-mail communication through the website?
The primary e-mail contact listed in your family account will receive the e-mails if necessary.

Does taking a class automatically guarantee my student a spot in a show?
No, CYT holds open auditions for students ages 8-18 who are registered in a current CYT class.  Once enrolled, you can audition for a show.

What does my child need to bring to class?
Students can bring a snack and water bottle to class.

What if my child doesn’t know anyone?
Many of our students are new to CYT. We encourage a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere where kids will meet new friends!

What should my child wear to class?
Please wear modest, movement-friendly clothing, closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or Crocs), and have girls' hair pulled back. Your teacher will have more specifics depending on the specialty of your class.

Is there a nurse on staff?
We do not have a nurse on staff. However, each location has a Coordinator that oversees the administration of the class and will take care of any first aid needs.

Can I sign up on the first day of class?
Yes! We'll meet you at the door! However, many of our classes fill up quickly so we encourage early registration.
